Throop Students' Documentary
Highlights WOW program

Thanks to the efforts of WOW committee members Martha Nice and Vivian Stuckwisch, the 6th graders at Throop Elementary have really taken the Orange County Health Living initiative to heart. Ninety members of the 6th grade class at Throop are participating in the WOW program. Many of the students are serving as team captains to get their families up and moving with them!

Recently, Throop students Kyle Street, Jessica Fullington, & Shelby Meredith put together a documentary entitled Childhood Obesity: A Challenge Our Country is Facing. They also participated in a Q/A session with first lady Michelle Obama, who is heading a special task force to tackle childhood obesity issues.
Kyle Street
Kyle Street was part of a live C-SPAN program
originating from the White House April 7.

Kyle was one of six students selected to discuss childhood obesity with First Lady Michelle Obama. He called into the program as part of C-SPAN's StudentCam documentary competition, in which middle and high students across the country produced short documentaries about the strengths and challenges facing America.

You will find links to the Q/A session with Mrs. Obama and to the Throop students' documentary at StudentCam. (Kyle's question for Mrs. Obama occurs about 44 minutes into the program.) You can also read more about the first lady's efforts to raise a healthier generation of children at Let's Move. Check out Let's Move Facebook page as well.
